We the proud Indians?
|
On one hand, at times I really wonder why should we be celebrating a Christian new year. Don't we have one of our own? Then again, in this globalisation, I do understand the seamless assimilation of traditions and cultures.
But celebrating is one thing and going a bit overboard is a completely different thing. Last year and this year too, molestation of women in public on New Years eve was a shameful event. Particularly given the matter of fact that it happened in Mumbai, apparently the safest city for women in India.
There were many other men around there. What happened to their pride? Were they not ashamed of such disgusting act was carried out right in front of their eyes? Or they too were enjoying the 'free show'?
As if molesting our own women folks was not enough, perverted jerks in Orissa, gave Indian a bad name when they harassed a touring family. Such incidents always will taint India's name bad. No matter what growth rate we achieve. No matte how much of economic advancements we make. No matter how many international take overs we do. Till such shameful, disgusting events keep happening, India and Indians will never get respect. On face and in polished media, you may find some nice words of praise but in common man's life, there won't be any respect.
There will be strong worded reporting and editorials for a few days. There will be intellectual discussion and debate in media and amongst the so called elites of the society. It will all die out in a week or two and till next such indecent act takes place, all will be forgotten. Aren't we missing something? Or have we become too lazy to even bother? Is it that we have accepted this and will continue with it? Is it that we are not affected by such 'petty' little incidents?
Sometimes, I do feel like supporting the right wing nationalists in banning all such 'foreign' festivals and things. Then when you analyse the situation, it their supporters who are the perpetrators in events of public molestation and other such shameful acts.
When will we really take up such matters and sort them out? Do we really need a revolution to wake us up? If we do, when will we start such revolution? Or are we too lazy for that too?
India Shining. Don't feel like it any more.

Three Monkey Syndrome
|
Following is FunkyGuru's (that's me, for those who don't know) interpretation of three monkeys in real world in modern times.
---
In my younger days, I was taught the lessons learnt from the famous 'three monkeys'. I always wondered, how come we have to learn from monkeys? Aren't we supposed to be more intelligent than them?
Well never challenged the authority and still I don't. I have realised that it's better to find your own simpler ways of understanding life rather then conforming or confronting the established belief system.
In modern times I see people suffering from something that always took me long to explain. By the time the explanation was over, listeners and readers would loose interest.
Last night, I had inspiration that gave me the following interpretation of the three monkeys in modern times. Rather then they representing wisdom, they represent the lack of it. They still remain the wise monkeys but by mocking what we are doing, these monkeys are reflecting our mistakes and the pain that we suffer from that. So here is the new interpretation:
Original :
The monkey with mouth covered: Speak no Evil
The monkey with ears covered: Hear no Evil
The monkey with eyes covered: See no Evil
My Version:
First of all I call it as the "Three Monkey Syndrome". All those who are suffering can be labelled as suffering this three monkey syndrome:
The monkey with mouth covered: I won't express my true feelings
The monkey with ears covered: I won't listen to the message from Universe
The monkey with eyes covered: I won't see the reality
Well this inspiration is pretty new and I guess I will need to refine it further more. Till then, hope you enjoy this different interpretation of three monkeys and maybe contribute towards refining it and making it more contemporary.

Live with your heart and Think with your mind
|
Most of the people confuse the role of 'heart' and 'mind'. Since ancient times, heart was associated with life, emotions and feelings. Where as mind was always associated with intelligence, rational and reasoning.
Confusion in the role of heart and mind leads to conflict and conflicts create tension in life. Going back to earlier articles and reasoning presented, life is simple, let's keep that way. One exercise that will help keep it simple is to keep the heart and mind constrained to their role.
First of all, let's understand what does it mean to 'live with your heart and think with your mind'.
Do you remember, one day, when you were walking down the street, or travelling by bus/train or you were in supermarket or mall, in other words you were in some public place. You catch a glimpse of person. You have never seen that person, you will never see that person again. Still for some reason, you feel very attracted to that person. That person does not even resemble anyone from you past. That person is not even attractive or looking something extraordinarily different. That person is just another ordinary human being. Could be a man, a woman, an old man, a little kid, a street vendor, a taxi driver ... just anybody.
On the other hand, you see someone, in similar situation and this time instead, you feel like going and slapping that person or simply you just don't like that person. For no reason at all.
This has happened with all of us. It happens often again. All such unexplained feelings and emotions are basically act of our 'heart'. It just picks up the frequency and if the frequency is not matching, it gives you wrong feelings like the sound from old crackling radio. When it pick ups right frequency, your heart sings like a good quality FM stereo radio. How about mind? Mind's role is to analyse. Analysis is done, based on data. Data is always of past. Hence mind, usually lives in past. For example, people when they grow, start forming their own views and opinion. Based on their views, opinion and experience they make their choices. Especially in the field of personal relationships. Martin and Jessica, were discussing the issue of heart and mind with me at a party where we were invited. After listening the arguments, Martin wanted to know how to differentiate between what is heart feeling or mind thinking. Whereas Jessica wanted to learn how to live with heart and think with mind. For Martin, my suggestion was as follows:Go to a park or possibly out of town, in to country side, where there is less of urbanisation and more of nature to see. Hear the sound of birds, the wild calls of strange animals, see the unseen trees and never imagined colours. I asked him to do this just casually. Simply walking through the nature seeing the colours, hearing the sound and smelling the fragrance. Not thinking about what it reminds you of but feeling the moment how it makes you feel like. Once this exercise is done often, the heart is automatically retrained to live and express the 'moment' as it experiences it. Rest all is your mind. Solution for Jessica was simpler: I asked her to close her eyes and guess what time it was. Not approximate time but more accurate time. When she mentioned time, I asked her to open her eyes and look at her watch and see how accurate/inaccurate she was in predicting the time. She was to keep doing this exercise till she found her accuracy in 'sensing' or 'feeling' the time. Most of the time our mind is so over occupied that we miss the real world and the real timing of our everyday life. Next article will be last in the series of stress management. I will continue writing more on various topics of life, health and happiness. Please do comment and send in your questions. I will be more than happy to reply to your questions.

Happy New Year
|
Dear Friend,
Earthquakes, land slides, hurricanes, typhoons and storms are all warning calls of mother Nature, asking us to slow down and stop abusing her.
As if the natural disasters are not enough, we have created more misery for human race. Hundreds and thousands of innocent people died in last year. They were killed by those lunatic suicide bombers or were killed by a rival group that disagrees. Some were victims of war where as some were victims of cruel regimes. Most shocking were the killings in Universities in US. I can understand many of the deaths but the ones that baffle me are called 'killed in friendly fire'. How can you fire upon your friend. The only person allowed to do that without being charged or held responsible is Dick Cheney but no one else in this world is allowed to fire upon a friend. Ironic isn't it? 'Friendly Fire'
Well enough of gloomy stories of 2007. I am sure 2008 will give even more gloomy stories. But that's not the point of this message.
This message is special. I written it for all my friends. I am also sending this as an email to show my respect to the brave people out there in this world. Who, even in the worst conditions, had the courage and wisdom to keep faith and showed the strength to carry on. I can't possibly send message to entire world but I can at least show my respect to my friends, my family and those who affected my life by being in it.
You are one such influential person in my life. I admire your strength and wisdom you showed in past year to come through unharmed and be able to celebrate the inauguration of year 2008. I take inspiration from you and try and walk my path with little steps. With confidence in my heart that you are there to guide me, when I am lost. I know you will think I am flattering. But you also know I am not good at flattering. So you are reading what is true. Take this compliments, this respect that you have earned and be proud about it. I am sure you will shine again in the coming year.
My prayer to the GOD or whatever you call or believe in, is the same as every year. "I don't ask for life without troubles. What I ask oh Lord, is bless me with the strength to take care of my own troubles." I ask for this strength for you too.
May this coming year, give us opportunity to further evolve our life. Gain more wisdom. Live more joyously. Fulfil more dreams and aspirations. May the coming year bring more spiritual awakening along with social and financial success. Let there be abundance in your life and you and your loved ones life well forever.
With this email, you have received is a the most genuine hear felt greeting from a true friend. Pass it if you like and share this passion of wellness to all. No it's not a chain letter or thing like that. It's just a plain simple from bottom of heart genuine message from equally plain simple friend of yours.
Let the party continue,

Every Blog has it's day
|
Well there is a secret behind it that's why did I not start the topic with the name like 'Every dog has it's day'. No, I am not talking in scenario of my very good friend Adeel Masood, who recently (almost 2 months back a new profile at a very popular social network with the name of 'Lone Dog' after getting pissed off with one or some great real time Geek/s.
I am not even talking about the puppy of popular Hutch ad, which is now searching for that person who changed his home from Hutch to Vodafone. Why Red, why not Pink? Might be he was happy with his old master. But who cares of a dog's feeling. A dog is dog at end of day.
Ladies and Gentleman, I was talking about Blog. So leave the Dogs. BLOGGISM™ did a recent study and found that everyone must start blogging. Sooner or later your blog (or say you) will be recognized by the masses. And who knows when you will be nominated for the next Nobel for your services to Literature, or Booker (for your service to Great English Language through your Blog).
Even you don't get any award, you did not loose anything. You did your Karma you wrote Blog. Like as Gita says "You are only liable to do your Karma, not in the result of that". So Don't worry if people just Blog away!

A Nation Story
|
The queue of snuff of candles in the Corridors of Heart,
Fear and sick from the light of sun,
Blurry image of the beauty of the loved one.
Embrace and intertwine their own Darkness.
Extreme pain and affliction,
Same use-less curiosity, same use-less questions,
Fatigued from the Color-less period of Today
Sad from the Past, Tired from the Dictator,
Thirsty thoughts, that never gets full-filled,
Burnt tears, that never comes into eyes,
A Stiff Pain that never shaped into Beautiful Song,
Song that never came out from the dark shadows of Heart,
In Search of Un-solved imaginary remedy,
The lust of being slaved, Search of affliction.
(Faiz Ahmed Faiz – Naqsh-e-Faryadi)
Last night I read the poem, quoted above, of Faiz Ahmed Faiz, one of the great political activists, a poet, a thinker and a humanist and was awarded the Lenin Peace Prize. I read his poem (“we the people”) and felt that no poet can translate the nature of this society as beautiful as Faiz described in this poem. Which is really superb!!!
It sometimes makes me think that what is the problem with the Pakistani society? Aren’t we capable of reading our future, aren’t we capable to elevate our thinking over the widespread tribulations, like Faiz did?
Pakistan, the land of beautiful people, which is a multi-cultural and multi-lingual society, came into being on 14th August 1947, but still in search of a system best suited. How many times we asked for a right system. From Parliamentary Democracy to federal Republic, from personal Dictatorship to Khilafat-e-Rashida (Islamic system according to Sunni Muslims). How many times we changed our slogan? More than that how many times we changed our rulers? Khalil Jibran, a Lebanese poet once said “Disgraced are those Nations who welcome every new ruler with a slogan and bye the former with abuses”. And I’m sure that he had a present day Pakistan situation in mind before saying so. Our every past ruler was either a security risk or a traitor. If you find some thing less, you may call them thieves of National wealth.
one of the security Risk to the nation is Shaikh Mujeeb of Bengal, who was so insane that worked day and night for the creation of Pakistan. But suddenly we realized that he was the same traitor who wanted to create a separate homeland, but the public asked “Why he! We get separate from them, not Bengalis”. What about genocide of the innocent Bengali’s? Which is accepted worldwide but we close our eyes to all the facts and realities. The killing of right of questioning and criticize is the first step to stagnate the formation of any civil society. And we did it better since our creation. We killed our elected PM Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, killed Akbar Bugti, twice the CM and once the governor of Baluchistan. They are people’s representatives if they work along with establishment but Ahh, Suddenly we realized that they are the fifth Columnists, whose mere presence is a risk to the nation.
My question and objection is not with the State. State from all over the world are organized and disciplined institutions whose first task to hide truth from the public, some times in name of religion and some time in name of nationalism. You can give it any name, but their prime purpose is to protect the crime and clandestine of that organized institution. And this is not new. And side-by-side we have those peoples who question on the virginity of government. These peoples are some times journalist or intellectuals or some times the group of common masses, whose presence is as necessary in any society as other institutions. I call them the “real face of any society”. And believe me, large part of masses supports them; believe in the every word of their pen. If it’s not that so, huge crowd never ever gathered in the streets of London, Washington DC, and Tel-Aviv against the illegal Iraq war. Noam Chomsky never gets so popular in America. Indra Gandhi never trialed by Justice Khanna and later rejected by their constituency. Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela never got so popular. Journalists never gave their life in battle-zones.
But when it comes to Pakistani society, large part of society satisfied with the ready-made opinion came from the State machinery or from the State controlled Media. Our minds are designed in such a manner that it can’t see the issues beyond the shadows of witnessed events. Our mind is not ready to raise or ask any question. I don’t know what is this called but indeed it’s not a good sign. And I see this thing more in big cities than Villages. I meet with the peoples of small town, and it’s shocking for me that they have more socio-political sense than citizens of big towns. This sense came to them through their local culture and through their folk literature in the form of poems and writings.
Yesterday, our professor told us that why research is so important for any society. Why Doubts are necessary to find the truth. Taking interest in the lecture, when professor said “The societies who close the door of research towards them are……” I cut the talk and said “their ratio of progress stopped”, He smiled and said “I was happy if it is so, I can compromise, but the thing is not stop on progress, a series of wrong schism introduce in the society. The wheel of progress was jammed and some times travel backward”. Indeed our society is the strong victim of this so many wrong schisms.
Coming to the intellectual Drawbacks. In the name of socio-political to economics and from General attitude to Daily life, we all live in our perceptions. This has nothing to do with the reality. We have our own fool’s paradise and we are happy to live in our own virtual world. Let’s take few examples, India the largest democracy and secular state. But talking in the public, India disguised the real face of Hindu fascism under veil of their secularism. You give thousand arguments in front of those but no they set their mind. And refused to move an inch of it. It is right some part of society in India infected with Hindu fascism, but put this blame on whole! What does that mean! And second if Hindu fascism arises in the society so as Muslim fascism, so as Maoist rebels in different states. Does it mean the whole society?
Politics! Most favorite topic of our publics, whether you can go to some tea stall or a student canteen from offices to markets, you will find large part of public discussing the political situation. No, I don’t say it’s bad at all or you fire a counter question to me, “what’s wrong in this?” there is nothing wring, but why our talks remain centered to personalities, why we always cry over split milk. Why we always talk on the issues that were either solved or continue delay by the administration. Why not we give the solution. Ok, if our political awareness is so high then why Pakistan is one of the societies where Voter factor decreases in every election! Why we have four marshal laws in our short History. Why we have same corrupt faces around? Why we were always ruled by Power? Isn’t it a disgrace for a Nation? Every person who read some two or three news of newspaper imagines his or her self an opinion leader. And guess what! The worst part of those discussions are when you take part in the discussion having some professional degree of political science or read books about current affairs, you are discouraged by the thumb-pin majority, because we are so immune to that culture and no one want to awake. Why we always talk about the corrupt system, why not change the system. Changing the system is some big thing, how many of us took part in the demonstrations and protests against any kind of injustice, from political to women issues. And the new trend after introducing tons of Blogs and virtual stations like Orkut and Hi-. If you know some good English and avoid grammatical mistakes than you are the master of current affairs. No matter you got administration degree or B.Com degree, your opinion can beat any one (at least in your imagination). Just click on the web-portal and make beautiful design of writing and keep insist that you are an intellectual. And it is not amazed we made dwarfs on name of intellectuals for past 60 years, so if this trend is so common in public, what’s new?
Why do we always prefer to be the part of that vicious circle? The basic truth and facts grow around us; we continue to live with these imaginations. Who will break the status quo? Who can ask raise question on the system, believe reality rather than Dreams. Immature knowledge is not a curse, but if one’s keep insisting to give name “divine truth”, it is a curse.
Religion, the beliefs every body respect and defend. But I think love has certain responsibilities. With out understanding responsibilities that love brings, love is nothing. We always get emotional when it comes to religion. And some times the situation comes to the matter of life and death. We have image that Islam is the religion of peace and respect mass opinion (Islam and all other religions are indeed religions of peace). But forget that in more than 60+ Muslim countries we have strict dictator ship or kingship. Which protect each other. Infect middle eastern and Arab countries have family terms with each other and protect each other, and when this protection requires of course at time of peoples revolution or at time when public chanting the slogans of democracy on streets. In fact our country is so merciful to Arab countries that their Intelligence chiefs conducted press conferences in our country and decide about our future (Nawaz-Sharif Case). And in the common masses we have so much respect for these self appointed guardians of Islam, Saudis, that they are the genuine guardians of Islam, who protect the two holy mosques at Mecca and Medina. A best friendship between a king and a dictator.
Not in one case in all issues we are the victims of our own double standards. Protesting against Salman Rushdi. Who wrote “Satanic verses”, I bet that million of us who protest against Rushdi never ever in life read Rushdi. I care a dam about this book (But respect “mid-Night children’s” and “Shame”); I think this book is worst on name of fiction. But it is only a fiction, nothing more than that. And I might said to Mr. Rushdi that they must be thankful to all Muslims of the world who made popular his book all among the Globe. The peoples who don’t know about the book are curious to read the book. And if protest against Rushdi, Why not protest against Dictators of our own country? Why not burnt the palaces of their Kings and Dictators who suck our blood? Why not divert their aggression to some cause. Why only destruction?
Nations need time to grow. But remain under ignorance and asked for progress is a difficult thing. Accept the mistakes and then on basis of that mistakes progress yourself.
Lets lift our hand, we too.
We don’t know the custom of pray..
We who don’t know nothing except sorrow of love..
Lets asked, the Creator of the world..
Fill the sweetness of tomorrow in the poisons of Today..
Those whose religion is to follow the path of lie and deceit
Do give him power to disagree, power of research..
Those whose heads are waiting to cut..
Give him courage to reject the hands of killers..

What is BLOGGISM™? Version 1.0.1
|
BLOGGISM™ is a new religious movement that has been created from the impacts of Blogs in our daily life. It might sound silly to base a religion on a modern www concept but it goes deeper than that. If a person takes the time to read the whole (Here I want to say allmost all the blogs which we go through) of the Blogs website it starts to make sense.
Blog is the first basic thing of BLOGGISM™. A blog (a portmanteau of web log) is a website where entries are written in chronological order and commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog. (Thanks a lot to Wikipedia for giving exact definition, otherwise I was thinking from what hell this Blog term came.)
There are several different kinds of Blog, We can read about them on Wikipedia. (Click on the link if you are really interested to read.)
And in case wikipedia has not included some kind of Blogs, I will introduce it here and anyone can edit Wikipedia to introduce these new categories of Blogs in Wikipedia to serve humanity.
Next comes Blogger. Blogger is that great or poor and/or stupid person who writes/maintain blogs. Like Blogs there are several kind of Bloggers, whom I would like to mention here. First major kind of Bloggers are those poor entities who write some serious kind of blogs and think that they are going to change the World and thinking of the people by this. They write on Politics, sports, Social issues. They bring tears in the eyes of readers. Most of time they write such a long Blog articles that people feel sleepy while reading the Blog (Atleast I do). Next are those bloggers like me who have no ideas what they are writing and even that anyone would read their blog or not. They write blog either they have nothing to do in their life or(and) they think they should also write Blog because now a days every second person is writing a blog. We can call them Nonsense/insane Bloggers. Now are the celebrity bloggers the 'Page3' and sometimes 'Page1' people. At first place they are not bloggers. They hire other unknown/known Bloggers/writers to write the blog on their name. Remember famous American proverb of 60s- 'If you can't make it then fake it'.
In last few days I have seen a new breed of Bloggers, who writes Testimonial Blogs for their friends whom they never met in their real life and infact they don't know what the real life is. These are those great souls for whom Internet and WWW is everything. They eat, sleep, drink and talk only Internet and various online communities. They even love on internet and make Love here only. I love these people very much. Infact I am fan of these serious kind of People. They have taken Blogging to a new height. 'Where Sun can't reach and shine there Bloggers can.' I bow to these bloggers. For these kind of Bloggers I coin a new term BLOGGISTS. BLOGGISTS are the only true followers of BLOGGISM™.
Here I proclaim that the whole idea and philosophy of BLOGGISM™ is given by me. BLOGGISM™ has nothing to do with www.bloggism.net. As I said in the first Paragraph of this Blog that BLOGGISM™ is a separate religious Movement, which is being followed by BLOGGERs and BLOGGISTs in their BLOGs. So I have put Trade Mark Symbol (™) here. This ™ idea I got from a very good friend of mine, who uses this symbol everywhere in this Real Virtual World. So BLOGGISM™ is copyrighted, but anyone can use it freely. Free as in Freedom and as in Free Beer Also. I owe to him but not going to pay a single penny.
Now I am in Writer's block, so I am stopping here. Whenever I will be back from this to normal, I will write more on BLOGGISM™ and BLOGGISTS.
May be one day Wikipedia (which is the Second best thing after GOOGLE on Internet, even GOOGLE proclaims it by spamming every 2nd or 3rd or 4th etc.. but in top 10 links from Wikipedia in 99.99% case.s) includes an article on BLOGGISM™ and me.
Hail BLOGGISM™. Long Live BLOGGISTS.
(I originally posted it at my initial blog http://bloggism.blog.com, reposted here.)

Just a thought.
|
It use to piss me off when, some unknown person sitting on the other side of the border use to say that India is a pseudo secular country and the people are pseudo secularists.
I never believed them and use to get back at them with strong arguments.
I can assure that the Government to a larger extent upholds the secular identity of our nation (you may disagree with the statement if feel contrary), the issue here is not the government or any political party, its about us … We the People of this legendary country who are proud of its ‘culture’, ‘heritage’, ‘traditions’, ‘morals’ and ‘values’.
How much we respect this moral and constitutional ideal, which stands at the forefront of the identity and integrity of India?
The question remains the same, are we secular from our heart and not the prima facie show off where we wish the other community on their festival?
I’m writing this not after watching some mind-boggling movie, which astonishes my conscience.
Just some personal experiences, which make me, think that why we have set standards for each and every Indian or the communities living within and we judge them and be-friend them based on these pre-conceived notions?
Indians are highly opinionated about each and every one and the sad part is that this opinion is generalized, taking a slight racist bent. Punjabis’ are boisterous, clever and always ready to fight, Bengalis are cunning, self-centered, Keralities are cunning too (and no matter a person belong to Karnataka or Kerela or TN, he just a Madrasi for the rest of the world) Gujaratis’ are misers and Muslims, needless to say they all are stubborn, rigid, and can bluff you anytime for their own interest. All of us more or less live with such opinions and then believe that all Indians are brethren.
Antagonism against each other is so much that often before making friends, one looks at the caste and religion of a person. One doesn’t want to rent a house to a muslim or sell a property, one does not want their sons or daughters befriending people belonging to so and so community. We are creating a Ghetto around ourselves, which might be so harmful for the future of the country that it will become unimaginable for our posterity to associate with others. In the era of globalization we have created such boundaries with our own land that the state has become saddening. I used to think that it is the old generation, which use to think so, the new clan which is educated and ‘modernized’ will not be suffering from such biases but I was wrong here, the hatred has as usual carried forward. This new generation has the same thoughts too; they might not show it but inside have the same feelings, which are now concretized. Its like the era of imperialism is gone but the white man still thinks he has the burden of civilizing the rest of the world.
I talk to my friends and they believe the same, that every Bihari is cunning and not even a single Muslim can be trusted, etc, etc, (other comments are not even worthy to be read or be written).
I’m sincerely waiting for the day when we really live up to the Gandhian ideals than having a national holiday and a dry day on 2nd October. Where unity is not only outside but also within our hearts. It can only happen when people for the sake of the interest of the country come out of such disgusting biases, it’s very important that we give up such communal ideology, which exists in majority of the minds of the Indians or else it will be quite easy to disintegrate again. And my personal experience say that brain-washing is the not only the job of some madarsa or some jehadi group … most of our homes do that too by prejudicing one from the other, which is quite worse from the former.
I’m reminded of few line by Faiz, which goes like this,
“jism par qaid hai, jazbaat pe zanjeerein hain, fikar mehboos hai, guftaar par tazeerein hain, apni himmat hai ke hum phir bhi jiye jatein hain”.
I really feel despite of such growing antagonism and mistrust against each other what is that one thing which is still making us survive? I don’t know what is it, but if such scenario continues for a long time, we may not survive any longer.
I can only request every one to believe in the ideals of the country, let every one live, befriend, and grow as one entity, come out of the ghetto created around yourself. … It’s us who can return to this land its lost glory, peace and prosperity …
To end I would like to quote Ahmed Faraz,
“jab qatal hua sur-sazon ka,
jab kaal padha aawazon ka,
jab shehar khandar ban jayega,
phir kis par sang uthaoge?
Apne chehre ko aaino mein,
jab dekhoge, darr jaoge.”

Reality vs. Perception
|
Lately I have been facing a lot of questions pertaining what is reality. Not that I am any expert on that subject but as I like to, I tried to put my mind to at least understand the question.
I have always said, before trying to find an answer, see if you understand the question in the first place.
So on reality, I was pondering for few days. Is it what we believe is reality or what we refuse to believe is reality? I cut my self while preparing some meal. It hurts. That is reality? Or because I believe, since I am cut, it hurts, that is reality?
No I don't mean to say that if I start believing it won't hurt even if I am cut, will become reality.
I realized that there is a very fine yet distinct line between what is reality and what is perception. this distinction is that unchangeable border that stops our progress and evolution.
Some examples to be considered.
There are people, and many of them, who lead a miserable life. If you enquire with them, they always someone or something else to blame their misery to. Seldom they take the responsibility of their own affairs. Their reality, is their perception that life is not going to improve for them. Loss of motivation, self esteem and self respect. There is no love for life or gratification of being alive and able. Constantly complaining and doing nothing about making change. Is it real?
There are some other people, very few, who irrespective of the circumstance, have a brilliant smile on their face. They may be suffering from deep pains, emotional or physical, but rarely let it spill out. They bring goodness around. They bring hope to living. Usually this people sooner then later, do succeed in their lives. Very few of them. Where is reality in their world? That pain or the that smile?
This led me to another aspect to think and ponder upon. The 'power of intent'.
One can make changes, cross that fine definitive line between perception and reality and lead a life which is more fulfilling. The power to change misery in to joy. Power to convert sorrow in to happiness. To convert tears in to laughter. Yet not forgetting the reality, that pain is inevitable. Just like death.
The important aspect here is that of self conciousness. Tricky word this conciousness is. Every time I used this word in my conversation or writing, people suddenly gave a unnecessary intellectual/philosophical 'high' importance to the event. Suddenly they start 'behaving' differently. Unfortunately so many spiritual teachers and gurus have used this terminology so loosely now that it has lost it's simple meaning.
The word conciousness once again takes you back to the fine definitive difference between reality and perception. So given the understanding of conciousness, in terms of understanding the reality versus perception, I find it is rather easier to work with ones own conciousness. For a moment, set aside the belief, the knowledge, the education, the opinion and the suggestions from outside, and you will see your own conciousness clearly. You will that distinctive fine line that separates your reality from your own perception.
Once you see this, you will also realise that your perception is also part of your reality. Mind boggling isn't it? Well I am still working on this concept and also on 'power of intent'. Someday soon I am sure I will have much clearer picture and much simpler words to express.

Are you being used/abused?
|
Haven't you ever had that feeling that you are being used? Especially by someone close to you? Or maybe someone you really care for is over using your generosity? Don't you feel like breaking from it?
First of all to learn how to stay away, first thing one must learn it to know that you are being used. It is one of the most difficult things to do in this world.
Most of the time, the person involved is a person we have a feeling for. Whatever this feeling may be. Romantic, friendly or plain old fashioned sympathetic. Because of such feeling we are blinded and we simply cannot see the fact. We tend to ignore the evidences of the reality. We tend to overlook the bright and clear signs warning us of cheating we are exposed to. We don't see any fault in those people. We in fact we go out beyond reasonable limits of giving them benefit of doubt. Many times we fool ourselves by believing they will learn the lesson and change.
It never happens. They never learn. They always make another sad story and one more after that. They drain your energy in all forms. Financially, emotionally and purely energetically they suck away like parasites. You get hurt but that emotional blinding numbs your senses. You do get pain but you don't register that pain. You ignore it. You neglect it. You simply shrug it off saying that's life.
This doesn't help anyone. Definitely not you nor the person who is cheating you.
I speak from my own experience. This experience has brought me to a point from where, now I can see the pitfall. From this experience I wish to share the knowledge with people and hope that they don't fall in the same trap.
Think clearly on the following points / questions: If this questions give you any insight, work on how would you use the new information to better your own life. As always, I am more than happy to answer to your questions and get some good input to further refine the method of saving our selves from being used.
Do You:
- do it naturally or feel compelled to?
- stretch yourself for being of use/help to other?
- act out of your own free will or you are usually asked to/called upon?
- ever consider your own priorities/limits before shelling out?
- feel obligatory to help?
- do it make yourself feel good?
- help so that you can win over people?
- help because you think you are making a change in their lives?
- really believe it is going to help them?
- ever consider if it is helping you or not?
This list can go on and each person from their individual experience can add and share their experience here with me and others.
I would wait for some response and soon enough I will write my own experience on my experiments with helping others. The amount of losses/gains are for individuals to justify but I will still quantise some so that there is a balanced perspective offered on the issues.
It's not an attempt to make someone look bad or feel bad. It's my own expression. One of those things that has been lingering on my mind for long. Realising that world is indeed a great place, provided one values the self worth.
This is not about stopping to help people. It's about realising that not every one needs help. We ought to weed out those fakes against the genuine. It's a difficult call but trust me friends, it is needed. Many a times it turns out that these people are none other then our own friends, family, people we really care for. But we are taken for granted. We are assumed.
In the end, we suffer. We keep quiet. Good hearted people that we want to be, we never even acknowledge of having make this mistake.
Why we fool ourselves? Isn't that another form of emotional escape we always look for? Probably we help others so that we always remain in demand and surrounded by people. We need this because we are afraid to be alone. Maybe we haven't found ourselves yet. That is why we need an excuse to be needed.
Clarity of thought is one thing that has always escaped us. It is not difficult to achieve. It's just that we don't want to achieve it.
Someday, I am sure, I will have that courage to seek clarity and live life more fulfilling. I am not complaining at my current life and still aspiring for a little bit more so that I can share it with others. I have had a fair amount of my share of hardship, betrayal, pain, sorrow and losses. Now I seek is my fair share of comfort, loyalty, joy, happiness and some achievements.

Passion,Patriotism and Orkut
|
Passion, Patriotism and Orkut.
I often ask myself, what is patriotism?
How shall we define it and is our patriotism becoming virtual day-by-day or only seen on orkut debates, b-logs and discussion?
Today the country thrives on the Internet world and is big time net savvy; we talk to more people online than passing a smile to our neighbour. Relationships, friendships, arguments, fights are all done here rather in real life, I don’t feel that day is far when human laughter will reduce to just LOL and you will hear it only on a chat window rather than with your own ears.
Coming back on patriotism, Orkut has become a forum for online discussions and debates, though most of us would have never opened out mouth ever in an inter school debate competition (and neither will care to participate if given an opportunity) but here we all are dexterous masters in debating, so much so that we give a blood boiling hard times to our opponents.
Debates take place on various topics, and God forbids if it is on a topic of national concern then suddenly we become the virtual incarnation of Bhagat Singh. All we try to enforce is to display love for our country (mostly) in front of a Pakistani and a Pakistani in front of an Indian, may be by making them look down with our so called perfect argumentative skills, or make fun, mock and jibe and then become self proclaimed saviour of the nation or a perfect debater (or also debator).
It’s a trend which is seen on orkut that whenever any national event is near like Independence Day or Republic day, people put up pictures of national flag to show there love for the country and talk about improving the condition of the country, politics, economy, social religious issues.
I just wanted to point out one thing, is this Patriotism for us? Is this the limit of the passion for our country? Discussing national-international issues, proving our point, indulging in constructive or unconstructive debates or may be outsmarting the others?
How many of us have actually proven their patriotism for their country? How many of us instead of discussing have tried to bring a change?
It’s very easy to fight for a cause here, but what about fighting it in real?
Well reality is something different, we speak about change but never want to be a part of it, and our thoughts shut down with the computer. Some get busy with their routine life, work or college, and other vellas (who only sit at home and do nothing) find new ways of showing their patriotism here on orkut cause actually they don’t have the courage to move out in real. Why is that the youth today has restricted himself to the world of net, eat, sleep and drink. When we read on orkut the discussions and debates, it gives a feeling of elation that the young generation has such profound thoughts for their nation but often it seems that passion for the country and also religion is only limited to most of them in this net world only. Our attitude is very reluctant we don’t even bring a change in our personal life, leave apart changing the situation of the country, most of us are a bunch of cowards, who can just blabber and not even personally follow what we say… its just for flaunting in this virtual world how modern, educated, liberal and patriotic we are.
We dedicate here communities for the army, celebrate army day, defence day, Victory day, etc. but how many of us even know the names of the martyrs of Kargil or any other war or how many of us have contributed to the war widow relief fund? I guess many of my fingers will be spared after counting such patriots.
Today what we are trying to do is to turn nationalism into racism it appears more like a racist ideology than patriotism. We like the vaunted display of our patriotism by putting the flags on orkut unlike our National leaders of past. In our national struggle they marched with the flags to establish their rights on their motherland. Now it has reshaped into a show off one's patriotism.
I am who is probably giving this lecture must have not done anything great in life but at this point of time I guess the realization is enough, so that in future I must do what I say. The only thing, which will help, is good education and the utmost zest to really-really bring a change. Go make use of what you have learned for the nation and give it back to it, you owe a debt to the land, you wont be indebted by just blabbering here.
To end I will put forth Gandhiji’s Talisman
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man [woman] whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him [her]. Will he [she] gain anything by it? Will it restore him [her] to a control over his [her] own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to swaraj [freedom] for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."
Go educate an illiterate, feed a poor, fight for justice, then come and say you are patriotic – actions speak more than words. Think next time on this before you claim yourself as a patriotic.

A New Youth Icon
|

When MTV, nominated Orkut for its new Youth Icon of the year, very few would have really imagined that Orkut will make it to the numero uno position. Infact I voted for "You" as the youth icon. It was hard for me to digest initially that, in the country supposed to be culturally (and otherwise) so rich, we will be selecting someone as virtual as an online community as the Youth Icon. But I was on the wrong side. And rightly so. With so many Arm-Chair analysts, debaters, enthusiasts and alikes mushrooming in, it was only an oversight on my part to think that Orkut is going to loose out. I still remember, during my school days, in literature, I started with writing essay on something like "Chandani Raat me Nauka Vihaar" (चान्दनी रात मे नौका वीहार) or something like on a leader (Do you remember when was Rajendra Prasad Born, I do remember ), or on Picnic. I won't be surprised , if my Kids, down the line will be asked to write an essay on any Online Forum, or will be asked to give an extempore on their last online debate.
Orkut can be a reason to cleberate for arm-chari netizens who has dedicate their entire life, entire youth to the monitor and key board, for online lovers, for online patriots, for online revolutionaries, and for, in words of Soumya, suffering from ICPSS, but certainly it can't be an Icon from me. I will be more than happy taking even the next door Sharma ji as my Icon, instead of this 'great' virtual social network as my icon.
All those "neticted" individuals. You have a cause to celebrate. Hit the floor and put it on fire. I will take a back seat for the time being. © BLOGGISM™

Identity Crisis and Password Sharing Syndrome
|
Identity Crisis, Quest to participate and Password Sharing Syndrome.
Oath: I, Soumya Saxena, hereby agree that all information in this Blog is authentic and acquired from various lifetime experiences pertaining to the recent trends on orkut. Any relation to person living or dead is incident. …Opppss!!! Co-incident.
What is this Syndrome?
If you are interested in any community, if you love to participate there by flaunting your knowledge or by pestering people, creating confusion, or by making pathetic threads but the problem is that either you are banned from that community or you are hated on that community (no one even care to read your thread… the mods delete your thread) then my friends you must look at this new trend.
For people who suffer from identity crisis, who actually do not want to reveal their real identity may make a fake profile with fictional names, weird pictures, unheard places and easily post without indulging in any personal conversation.
Such species are found in abundance and are well known for creating mess, often banned, but always comes back with various fictional identities … declaring “we will remain the same.”
But the most amazing way is the latest technique called by the computer experts as the “password-sharing syndrome”. Here one who is banned or unwanted can acquire the profile password of his/her ‘good’ friend and can use the profile for posting in the community and let out all his/her frustration and utmost urge for posting and Bingo!!!! He/she is not even caught.
Reasons and Requirements:
This technique requires two fools (there can be more that one in certain unique cases), one who wants to post in a community by any means and is actually dying to do so by hook or by crook (desperation at this stage seems limitless) the other is the person who is fooled in this disorder because of his/her foolishness or some sentimental psyche by letting his/her password be shared for this purpose. Both the parties here suffer from mental anxiety and some or the other kind for mental state which requires a kind of satisfaction and appreciation both by others’ and by each other. Which is received by this sharing and further usage of this facility.
Symptoms of this Syndrome:
The symptoms may not seem much evident on the face but if one observe they gradually become manifest. First and foremost you will find a change in the personality and behaviour of the person who is sharing his/her password, that person will seem to be different and post differently unlike what he use to do earlier.
Second, there will be a latent or manifest support for the person who is hated or banned (the person is with whom the password is being shared).
Third, the ideology of these two people will be similar or same or they will be found supporting each other.
Fourth, that person will be seen online on odd times, like late night, early morning or during work or college hours, when generally he or she is not online.
Fifth, his/her area of interest will suddenly change and the posting style of the two people will be same or similar.
If these symptoms are noticed then there is a grave suspicion of this syndrome. And these symptoms should be taken lightly.
Remedy:
Unfortunately, no remedy is available for this disorder; the computer experts have failed to find a possible solution till now because the disorder is still new to most of them and unknown to m any. Moreover, it cannot be stopped wholly cause it depends on the personal prudence of two consenting people. The only solution available is avoidance to certain extent.
Warning:
This syndrome can be really disadvantageous and damaging to the person who is sharing his/ her password as it may lead to tarnishing of image, similar hatred towards himself/herself. Furthermore, the account may also be misused for wrong purposes, which you might be totally unaware of and it may lead to serious unwanted consequences and you may leave feeling used for this treacherous purpose.
Advice
For those who are actually suffering from this disorder think that they are really smart and no one is actually aware of their operations, must remember that people on the other side are not foolish enough to be fooled with this technique.
Even they have their ways to outsmart such people suffering from identity crisis and this syndrome.
